On February 10th, I had the opportunity to interview Penn State Harrisburg alum, Ryan Sprenkle. Ryan graduated from Penn State Harrisburg in 2019, and is currently an Internet Marketing Specialist at WebFX.

Why He Chose Penn State

When being asked why he chose to attend Penn State, Ryan expressed that he had, “a long history of family members that also went to Penn State.” Both of his parents attended the University as well as numerous aunts and uncles. Since being a little kid, Ryan had been visiting State College, so he “kind of knew that’s where [he] always wanted to go.” Ryan actually started out at Main Campus, but after taking a year off, he ended up switching to the Harrisburg Campus. The class size played a significant role. At Harrisburg, Ryan felt as though things were more personal. He was able to engage with professors, collaborate with other students, and learned better as a result of attending a smaller campus.

Experience in the Marketing Club

While attending Penn State Harrisburg, Ryan joined the Marketing Club where he took on the role as President. “I never had the goal of being president… [but] we managed to organize a group together and go to nationals.” That was a significant accomplishment for Ryan and the other members of the club. His role as president helped him develop planning and organizational skills. Ryan felt more accountable to himself that he could help the other members. The sales competitions he competed in helped him develop as a professional in general. Ryan was able to communicate with potential employers. These communication skills really translate into his work today; talking with clients on a regular basis. Ryan’s favorite memory during his time in the marketing club was his first sales competition and having the opportunity to engage with fellow students and other members.

What It’s Like Working at WebFx

Finally, I asked Ryan what it’s like to work at WebFX and what are his favorite things about the company. He expressed that he loves working at WebFX and that they, “provide a great environment to learn.” Ryan said they offer a really great support system. Everyone is on the same page and easy to work with. He said that WebFX provides him with all the tools he needs to be successful in his job. They help build up a good foundation and play to his strengths.
